…with an accent on the “Care”. I love to help people heal, and especially enjoy supporting those who take an active role in pursuing health care. Over the past 16 years, my business model of health care has been forced to change dramatically. I once offered a sliding scale to everyone because I felt that people deserved to be treated with quality care in exchange for whatever they could afford at the time. Then I bore children… 3 of them. And then became a single mom. And of course – kids grow, and eat (a lot), and their needs become more and more expensive. And it was a struggle.
In order to support my family and still provide quality care to my patients, I had to revise my fee structure to be at least in ballpark of other providers in the area. So I decided to implement a plan that most other acupuncturists balked at – I became an IN-NETWORK provider with insurance plans. All of them. I spent countless hours credentialing my business and agreeing to fee scales that I probably should have negotiated, but was incredibly focused on making acupuncture attainable to those with health insurance.
Fast forward over a dozen years… Health care these days is sub-par at best for 75% of patients. If you are covered for preventive care, you are lucky. It just doesn’t make sense financially nor logically: “An ounce of prevention…,” and all that. Most people simply cannot afford it, especially those who need it most. I finally decided to start this nonprofit to help my current and future patients afford to get well, and stay well, with acupuncture-based health care. The Family Acupuncture Foundation was created to provide scholarships for underserved families along the Front Range of Colorado. Currently, applications for free and reduced rate care is available through Boulder Family Acupuncture in Boulder, CO. http://www.boulderfamilyacupuncture.com
Acupuncture-based health care for those who need it, not just those who can afford it.
